Floyd Domino - San Angelo Cowboy Gathering
It has been two weeks since we were there, and I wanted to send you this message while driving home. Where was I? San Angelo, Texas! I had a table selling and signing my books at the San Angelo Cowboy Gathering. It was an experiment to see if people who would likely be part of my audience/readership and were attending an event to listen to Western swing bands and dance would take the time to stop, visit, and buy my books.

The answer was Yes! I sold more books there than at many of my book signings at bookstores and libraries. Of course, there were 1100 people who were wearing more hats, boots, and fancy Western outfits than you could imagine. So a book titled “A Cowboy’s Destiny” or “A Cowboy’s Fortune” caught some attention. I felt totally at home in that crowd, and Linda and I had such a good time. It would have been a fun weekend even if I was there only for the music. The event organizers had my space ready and set me up next to the entertainer’s merchandise table. A perfect location.

The hotel we were recommended was great, too, when talking about a perfect location. It was The Pearl on the Pecos Hotel. It is not a new place but very nicely kept up. Our room was handy to our car. It had a restaurant, bar, and an indoor atrium with a pool, playground for kids, and seating for groups to enjoy a very pleasant environment. The price was much less than you might think, as well.

The two-day event was amazing. A Who’s Who of Western/Texas Swing bands were the entertainment. I can’t possibly mention them all, but Floyd Domino, Billy Mata, Jodi Nix, Jake Hooker, and Bobby Marquez were just some of the bands that played for almost twelve hours on both days. I had my guitar with me, but it stayed packed up. I’m no fool.

Since returning, I’ve had two additional events. A book signing at Page One Books in northeast Albuquerque and another at the Fort Sumner, NM library. I have been busy, and that’s what you want. In Fort Sumner, I could have a meal with Leslie and Glenda Armstrong, the owners of the Cornerstone Ranch. I used their place as a model for the Cornerstone Ranch mentioned in Destiny. It will come back to the storyline in a future book, and we had a wonderful time discussing possible ways that could happen. They are truly great folks, and I’ve loved getting to know them.

We’re still planning to create a YouTube Channel program - Brown Baggin' It with Joe, so feel free to offer any ideas and thoughts. The launch date will be after the holidays. See you soon.

Happy Trails,
Joe
